  • We had an American built HOPTO digger with pretty much the same configuration. It worked well for many years, and was made so much more useful by replacing the wheels with ex army Bren Gun Carrier tracks, a section about 3 feet long on each side. This made the digger much better able to be used in swampy ground and greatly improved it's stability with a load of wet dirt out to the side for emptying. It was bought new in New Zealand in 1952.

  • when I left school in 1977 I worked on a farm(where I learnt that Ford made a better tractor than Massey-Ferguson !)which had a Hamilton trailer digger very handy peace of kit it was owned 3 ways with 2 other farmers in the area they had bought it new in 1954

  • The HOPTO name was Hydraulic Operated Power Take Off. We used it for many years behind DC Case tractor. They were imported and sold by Doring Implement Supplies, who also sold New Holland Balers.
